10 the most polluted cities need to be gasified and turned to alternative energy sources, zakon.kz reports.
The head of state Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said this in his Address to the People of Kazakhstan, paying great attention to environmental problems in the country, especially air quality.
The President noted that together with strategic investors, about 2.4 ths. MW of renewable energy capacity will be commissioned in different regions of the country.
The President also drew attention to the long overdue issues of infrastructure modernization. In particular, he noted that in order to improve the situation with gas supply to the western regions, the implementation of three projects worth 700 billion tenge will start this year. These are construction of gas processing plant at Kashagan, construction of looping of Makat-Northern Caucasus pipeline, and modernization of Beineu-Zhanaozen pipeline.
It will be recalled that some of these issues were raised by the President of Kazakhstan earlier, on 26 August, during a working meeting with the heads of oil and gas companies - members of the Foreign Investors' Council. At that meeting, measures for further development and improvement of investment attractiveness of the country's oil and gas sector were discussed in detail.
The President emphasized the importance of timely implementation of projects to expand Tengiz, Kashagan, and Karachaganak fields to ensure the country's economic growth and set a number of priority tasks for members of the Council and the Government of the country. The President called creation of gas processing facilities at the existing oil and gas fields a particularly important task.
According to the Head of State, the use of gas for gas chemical projects will reduce raw material direction of the industry.
