The Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan and PJSC Gazprom have held a meeting of the Joint Coordination Council (JCC), focused on expanding bilateral cooperation in the gas sector.

The meeting was attended by Kazakhstan’s Vice Minister of Energy, Kairkhan Tutkyshbayev, Deputy Chairman of Gazprom’s Management Committee Vitaly Markelov, as well as senior executives from national gas company QazaqGaz and Gazprom.

Key items on the agenda included the future work of the Joint Working Group on the development of the gas transmission system, cooperation in underground gas storage, as well as technological development and joint research and engineering projects.

The discussions took place against the backdrop of earlier agreements between the parties. At the St. Petersburg International Gas Forum on 8 October last year, Gazprom and the Government of Kazakhstan signed a memorandum on the implementation of a gasification project for Kokshetau and Petropavlovsk through the extension of the Saryarka gas pipeline from Astana to Petropavlovsk.

According to participants, the establishment of the Joint Coordination Council is a timely initiative that reflects the mutual interest of Kazakhstan and Russia in further developing cooperation in the gas sector. The Council is expected to become a permanent platform for coordinating actions, deepening dialogue and developing agreed solutions aimed at strengthening partnership and enhancing energy security in the region.

Following the meeting, the parties signed an action plan for the activities of the working groups within the Joint Coordination Council for 2026–2027.
