Alibek Zhamauov, Chairman of the Management Board of QazaqGaz, met with Dr. Daniel Yergin, Vice Chairman of S&P Global and a world-renowned energy expert. The meeting focused on exchanging views on key issues shaping the global energy landscape, as well as Kazakhstan’s role as a major player in Central Asia and a vital bridge between European and Asian markets.
During the discussion, the sides addressed long-term trends in the global gas sector and their impact on regional stability, along with opportunities to further enhance Kazakhstan’s transit potential.
Special attention was given to the role of natural gas as a “bridge fuel” toward a low-carbon economy. Dr. Yergin emphasized that in times of energy system transformation, maintaining an open dialogue among key market players is essential. He noted that natural gas should be viewed not merely as a commodity, but as a cornerstone of sustainable development—enabling a smooth, cost-effective energy transition while ensuring supply stability and security.
Mr. Zhamauov, in turn, highlighted QazaqGaz’s role as the national gas operator in strengthening the country’s energy security and improving quality of life through the reliable and efficient supply of gas.
Dr. Yergin shared his perspective on market dynamics, stressing the importance of analytical optimism when evaluating market shocks. “The history of global energy markets has taught us that despite short-term disruptions and volatility, long-term fundamentals and trends are what truly matter,” said Dr. Yergin. “The industry’s ability to adapt and innovate has always been its greatest strength. Today’s discussion reinforces a shared understanding of both the challenges and opportunities ahead.”
The meeting concluded with an agreement to continue expert dialogue and exchange analytical insights and forecasts—supporting informed, strategic decision-making for the future development of Kazakhstan’s gas sector.
