The Chairman of the Management Board of JSC NC QazaqGaz, Alibek Zhamauov, together with the NCOC team led by Managing Director Giancarlo Ruiu, visited the construction site of the Gas Processing Plant (GPP) at the Kashagan field to review progress on the project. The meeting was attended by subject-matter specialists from GPCI and representatives of contracting organisations.

Contractors reported on the status of construction and installation works and presented plans to achieve the project’s key milestones by the end of the current year.

Alibek Zhamauov emphasised the need to strengthen resource mobilisation and accelerate the pace of construction. He noted that construction and installation activities are under heightened oversight and instructed the team to continue efforts to optimise production processes. Particular attention was also paid to strict compliance with industrial and fire safety requirements, including the organisation and supervision of night-time works.

Background information

More than 1,500 specialists are currently engaged at the site, including 981 direct personnel. Approximately 96 employees are involved in night shifts. Over 346 units of construction equipment are in operation. Special emphasis is placed on ensuring safe working conditions, including during night-time operations.

Construction and installation works (CIW) progress

  • Foundation works, installation of steel structures, service platforms and process structures are ongoing;

  • Installation of the firewater pipeline, formwork installation and reinforcement of foundations are under way, along with backfilling and excavation works for external utility networks (NVK-2);

  • Welding works on spherical tanks have been completed; 8 out of 10 tanks have undergone heat treatment;

  • Installation and painting of steel structures on units and pipe racks continue;

  • Installation of sandwich panels at Distribution Substation No. 3 has been completed;

  • At the shift camp, works are ongoing on entrance groups, internal utility networks (NVK), electrical installation and low-current systems, as well as the installation of internal partitions.

Progress by key workstreams

  • Concrete works for foundations: 58,928 m³ completed (77.3%)

  • Steel structure installation: 9,257 tonnes (45.9%)

  • Mechanical equipment installation: 4,690 tonnes (47.8%)

  • Tank installation: 1,863 tonnes (92.6%)

  • Underground pipeline installation: 24,910 metres (54.2%)

As part of the visit, Alibek Zhamauov also reviewed the progress of construction at the Eskene LPG terminal located in the Atyrau Region. Construction and installation works at the facility are ongoing, including foundation works and pipeline installation. Welding works on the LPG pipeline and installation of LPG storage tanks are in progress. Deliveries of process equipment required for subsequent assembly and commissioning of the plant units are under way. In parallel, earthworks and preparatory works are being carried out to develop the substation site, while fabrication of piping spools with shop-based welding continues.
