Chairman of the Management Board of QazaqGaz, Alibek Zhamauov, spoke at the Energy Trends conference, presenting the company's key projects—ranging from geological exploration and the construction of gas processing plants (GPP) to the digitalization of gas metering and achieving an 80% gasification rate.
In line with the Head of State’s mandate to strengthen the country's energy security, QazaqGaz is placing a special emphasis on geological exploration.
"To date, the company has reserved 30 subsoil areas, and we are working on attracting strategic partners for these projects. Large-scale seismic and geochemical surveys are planned for 13 of these areas," said Alibek Zhamauov.
Construction is also underway on a GPP at the Kashagan field with a capacity of 1 billion cubic meters of gas per year. Once operational, the plant will produce approximately 730 million cubic meters of commercial gas annually. Preparations are also ongoing for the construction of new plants at the Kashagan and Karachaganak fields.
Under the "Aqyl Energy" project, QazaqGaz is phasing out over 1.3 million traditional metering devices in favor of smart meters. More than 200,000 units are scheduled to be installed by the end of the year. The company’s mobile application now features automatic meter reading recognition and integration with the eGov portal.
The task set by the Head of State is to reach an 80% gasification level in Kazakhstan. According to Alibek Zhamauov, residents of 66 settlements have been connected to the gas supply network this year, and another 69 are expected to be connected by the end of the year. To date, approximately 5,000 kilometers of gas pipelines have been commissioned, and more than 133,000 technical specifications have been issued for connection to the gas supply system.
