On September 24, a ceremony was held to complete the construction of the second line of the Almaty-Baiserke-Talgar main gas pipeline. The event was attended by the Chairman of the Board of JSC NWF Samruk-Kazyna Nurlan Zhakupov, Akim of the Alatau district of Almaty Talgat Malybayev, Deputy Akim of the Almaty region Rustam Isatayev, and Chairman of the Board of JSC NC QazaqGaz Sanzhar Zharkeshov.

This is the fourth gas infrastructure facility for the thermal power plant. Its length is 62.4 km, diameter is 530 mm, and throughput capacity is 1,000,000 m3/hour.

"To date, the contractor has completed all the necessary work, including improvement work on the site and testing of the gas pipeline. The additional second line of the gas pipeline will ensure a reliable and uninterrupted supply of natural gas to consumers, including CHPP-2 and CHPP-3," said Nurlan Zhakupov.

In addition, expanding the gas transmission system will help avoid emergency situations associated with the shutdown of the existing single-line gas pipeline "Almaty-Baiserke-Talgar".

"QazaqGaz completed the construction of the fourth facility for the Almaty CHPP ahead of schedule. The conversion of the CHPP to gas will help improve the environmental situation in the metropolis, develop businesses, and create new jobs. I want to express special gratitude to the Samruk-Kazyna Fund, the Akimat of Almaty, and the Almaty Region for their support in implementing an important project," said Sanzhar Zharkeshov. Thus, JSC NC QazaqGaz has fully completed the construction of external gas infrastructure for CHPP-2 and CHPP-3 in Almaty. The project was implemented ahead of schedule on the instructions of the Head of State to switch Almaty CHPPs to gas.

Preparation of external gas infrastructure included the construction of four large-scale facilities. Two automatic gas distribution stations at CHPP-2 and CHPP-3, with a capacity of 250 and 150 thousand cubic meters per hour. The TIP-04 gas pipeline between the Almaty-Baiserke-Talgar and Kazakhstan-China gas pipelines with a capacity of 1 million cubic meters per hour, as well as the second line of the Almaty-Baiserke-Talgar main gas pipeline. Two automatic gas distribution stations and the TIP-04 gas pipeline were commissioned in November 2023 ahead of schedule. It should be noted that the conversion of Almaty thermal power plants to gas will reduce the negative environmental impact of the facilities on the ecological situation in Almaty and the Almaty agglomeration. In addition, the expansion of the gas transportation system of Almaty and the Almaty region will give a new impetus to the development of business and industrial enterprises, which will provide new jobs and have a multiplier effect on the region's economy.
