By the instructions of the Head of State to convert Almaty thermal power plants to gas, a subsidiary of QazaqGaz NC JSC, Intergas Central Asia JSC, completed the first stage of construction of gas infrastructure for the Almaty energy complex.
The first stage included the construction of two automatic gas distribution stations and a TIP-04 gas jumper pipeline between the Almaty-Baiserke-Talgar and Kazakhstan-China main gas pipelines. At the same time, repair and restoration work was carried out at the AGDS ZTK.
The launch ceremony of the AGDS and the opening of the TIP-04 jumper was attended by Deputy Akim of the city of Almaty Askar Amrin, Deputy Akim of the Almaty region Nurzhan Kudaibergenov, Co-Managing Director for Strategy and Asset Management of Samruk-Kazyna JSC Elzhas Otynshiev, as well as the Chairman of the Board of NC JSC QazaqGaz" Sanzhar Zharkeshov.
“On instructions from the Head of State, QazaqGaz completed the first stage of preparation of gas infrastructure for Almaty thermal power plants ahead of schedule. Meanwhile, we have already started construction of the second line of the Almaty-Baiserke-Talgar gas pipeline, which will be the next stage of preparation for gasification of the thermal power plant,” said Sanzhar Zharkeshov.
AGDS are designed to supply CHPP-2 with natural gas. Their productivity is 250 and 150 thousand m3/hour, respectively.
“The first stage of construction of gas infrastructure for the Almaty thermal power plant has been completed. This is the first step in implementing the instructions of the Head of State to switch Almaty thermal power plants to gas. The city is aimed at consistent gasification of the industrial and private sectors until 2030. The corresponding projects are provided for in the City Development Program and the updated General Plan of Almaty,” Deputy Akim of Almaty Askar Amrin noted during his speech.
At the same time, the TIP-04 gas jumper pipeline between the Kazakhstan-China main gas pipeline and the Almaty-Baiserke-Talgar main gas pipeline will provide a stable gas supply not only to Almaty thermal power plants but also to the residents of Almaty and the Almaty region. The total length of the gas jumper pipeline is 9.6 km, and productivity is 1,000 thousand m3/hour.
“Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev instructed the Samruk-Kazyna Fund, the national company QazaqGaz, and the Almaty city akimat to speed up the gasification of Almaty thermal power plants. I would like to note that this project is very important for the country’s energy industry, improving the environment of Almaty, and for the development of small and medium-sized businesses. This is a great help for business entities that operate in the industrial zone,” said Elzhas Otynshiev, co-managing director for strategy and asset management of the Samruk-Kazyna Fund.
In addition, with the commissioning of the ZTK AGDS, the possibility of gas supply for large industrial and manufacturing business projects in the Almaty industrial zone has become possible.
AGDS ZTK was built in 2016 by a private contractor but was not put into operation. In 2023, NC QazaqGaz JSC eliminated defects at the AGDS at its own expense. The capacity of the AGDS will be 140,000 m3/hour with two output lines - 90,000 m3/hour for residents of Almaty and 50,000 m3/hour for the industrial zone.
“Today is a very important day for residents of Almaty and the Almaty region. As part of the order of the Head of State on the gasification of the regions, the construction of an AGDS for the Almaty CHPP-2 was completed. This is a shared achievement. The transfer of heat and power centers located in the Karasai, Ili, and Talgar districts of the Almaty region to “blue fuel” will improve the ecology of several settlements in our region, and some of them will be gasified. This project will also provide gas to the city that will be built as part of the G4 City project,” said Deputy Akim of Almaty Region Nurzhan Kudaibergenov.
It is worth noting that the project to modernize Almaty thermal power plants is being implemented by Samruk-Energy JSC. QazaqGaz, in turn, is engaged in the construction of gas infrastructure. The implementation of the project will improve the quality of life of people in Almaty by reducing air pollution in the city and surrounding areas, and will also cover growing energy consumption.
