In April 2023, a new 60 km high-pressure underground gas pipeline was completed and operated in the Mangistau region. It connects the village of Kuryk with the area "Sarsha" and the resort area "Warm Beach" near Aktau. The instructions of the President of the country carried out this project. The project was implemented by KazTransGas Aimak JSC, a subsidiary of NC QazaqGaz JSC, which is part of the group of portfolio companies of the Samruk-Kazyna Fund.
On August 11, Nurlan Zhakupov, Chairman of the Board of the Samruk-Kazyna Fund, visited the gas distribution point (GDP) of the Sarsha gas pipeline. He got acquainted with the course of preparatory work for the upcoming heating season.
"We are building one and repairing three strings of the Beineu-Zhanaozen gas pipeline. We will complete this work by the end of this year. This will increase the reliability of gas supply to the population of the Mangistau region," said Nurlan Zhakupov.
Gasification of coastal areas will help develop the resort potential of the Mangistau region and ensure the year-round operation of tourist facilities. This is especially important given the constantly growing tourist flow to the area.
"The construction of the Sarsha gas pipeline is financed by the national company QazaqGaz. The amount of investments will be about 31 billion tenge. Gasification of the Sarsha area will ensure a stable gas supply to the objects of the agricultural and tourism industries. Among them are the Rixos Hotel and other establishments that will help develop tourism in the Mangistau region. This is a significant step for the region's socio-economic development," said Sanjar Zharkeshov, Chairman of the Board of QazaqGaz.
Five existing recreation centers will be connected to the new gas pipeline, as well as future hotels and entertainment centers that are planned to be built. One resort area, "Warm Beach" will consume about 20 thousand m3 of gas per hour.
Water desalination
Gasification will solve the problem of water shortage in the region. One of the primary consumers of new gas volumes should be a gas-fired desalination plant, which is planned to be built.
The plant will consume up to 21 thousand cubic meters. m of gas per hour. These needs are already included in the throughput capacity of the gas pipeline. The demand for gas from this enterprise will be greater than all the hotels and shopping malls in the Tyoplyi Plyazh resort area combined. The capacity of the desalination plant will be up to 50 cubic meters. m per hour. This means local residents will receive an additional 1.2 million liters of drinking water daily.
Agriculture
Gasification will also give impetus to the development of agriculture in the region. Due to the harsh desert conditions, there is practically no farmland in the Mangistau region. Agricultural products are produced in greenhouses, which require fuel to operate. A new gas pipeline should solve the needs of agricultural producers in gas. Both peasant farms and greenhouses of the Karakiya and Munaily districts will receive an additional 36.5 thousand cubic meters. m of gas per hour.
In general, the new gas pipeline will give impetus to the region's economic development and tourism potential and stimulate the growth of small and medium-sized businesses.
