Today, QazaqGaz and the regional akimat launched a looping (second line) of the Makat-North Caucasus gas pipeline in the Makat district of the Atyrau region.

The investment project is being implemented as part of the execution of the instructions of the Head of State to improve the reliability of gas supply to the population and large industrial enterprises of Atyrau and the Atyrau region, as well as to ensure the energy security of the country as a whole.

The construction of looping, with a total cost of about 86 billion tenge, is one of the investment projects that the national company, together with the Samruk-Kazyna Fund, is implementing throughout Kazakhstan.

According to Sanzhar Zharkeshov, Chairman of the Board of JSC NC QazaqGaz, the implementation of the project is of high social and strategic importance for the region.

"First of all, the implementation of the project is aimed at ensuring the energy security of the Atyrau region, and secondly, at the reliable and uninterrupted gas supply and the transfer of industrial business facilities to an environmental type of fuel - natural gas, and most importantly - improving the comfort of living for the population, improving working conditions and life," said Sanzhar Zharkeshov.

In addition, the construction of the looping will avoid emergencies associated with the shutdown of a single-line gas pipeline and ensure uninterrupted gas supply to the special economic zone "National Industrial Petrochemical Technopark" in the Atyrau region. According to the technological scheme of the project, the design capacity of the Luping MGP "Makat - North Caucasus", with a design pressure of 7.4 MPa, will be 13.147 billion m3/year.

Makat-Northern Caucasus has been in operation for over 30 years—specific technical issues must be addressed immediately. If the main gas pipeline failed, the population and large enterprises would be left without a gas supply. Taking into account the unique role of this project for our region, the national company QazaqGaz promptly launched the second looping line, "Makat-North Caucasus. This is a huge, socially important investment project for the Atyrau region," said Kairat Nurtaev, deputy akim of the region.

It should be noted that the failure of the Makat-North Caucasus gas pipeline, which has been operating for over 30 years, especially during the autumn-winter operation, can cause an energy collapse of the entire region with a disruption in the gas supply to settlements and production facilities in Atyrau and Atyrau region, when not only 400 thousand people, but also the city-forming enterprises of the area, socially oriented objects - kindergartens, schools, hospitals, etc. may be left without gas, water, heat supply.

Given the strategic importance of the Makat-North Caucasus gas pipeline in terms of ensuring the internal energy security of the population and industrial enterprises of the Atyrau region, as well as the current technical condition of the gas pipeline, JSC Intergas Central Asia carried out the construction of the Makat-North Caucasus gas pipeline Luping on the section 0- 130 km.
