On November 23 in Beijing, the QazaqGaz Scientific and Technical Center entered a Memorandum of Understanding with PetroChina Research Institute of Petroleum Exploration & Development (RIPED).

The document was signed by Saule Samekina, Deputy General Director for Analytics and Training of QazaqGaz STC LLP, and Li Yong, Deputy General Director of PetroChina Research Institute of Petroleum Exploration & Development.

One of the main areas of cooperation with RIPED is developing design, engineering, research work, and technical standards in the gas sector. This will address several issues - from studying the problems of main gas transport, underground gas storage, and gas metering matters during commercial operations and distribution to the end consumer to difficulties of applying the best achievements of science through standardization and installing IoT sensors during gas transportation and distribution.

RIPED representatives identified the following priority areas of interaction:

exploration and development of deep/ultra-deep gas deposits;

exploration and development of shale gas/tight gas/CBM/synthesis gas;

Technology and equipment for hydraulic fracturing, gas production, geological and hydrodynamic modeling, and experimental methods for studying core and fluid.

These topics involve the joint study of modern approaches in exploring and developing gas fields, CBM production technologies, and gas synthesis. We are also talking about using the contemporary Lidar method in developing areas and Data Science, BigData, BI analytics algorithms using artificial intelligence in the oil and gas industry.

After signing the document, Saule Samekina said that the critical point in interaction with the research institute will be the development of innovative technologies in the field of green energy - the implementation of investment projects in the field of green hydrogen in the Republic of Kazakhstan with the participation of domestic and foreign investors, specialized foreign organizations, and investment funds. In turn, this will contribute to the attraction of the best global practices in the development of the green hydrogen sector, the development of the hydrogen economy in the country for sustainable and low-emission energy supply with the necessary market, technological, and regulatory framework for the construction of factories, electricity generation, expansion of hydrogen delivery infrastructure and applied technologies.

According to Alibek Mardanov, Deputy General Director for Science and Innovation of QazaqGaz STC LLP, special attention will be paid to solving production problems, considering 3D modeling and 3D printing of equipment and spare parts. “The idea is to create a database of all the parts needed, their design, and how they can be made using a 3D printer. This helps produce any spare parts that may suddenly be needed,” he said.

As part of a visit to Beijing and a meeting with the management team of RIPED on November 24, the QazaqGaz delegation will take part in a technical seminar with colleagues from the Institute. The conference will cover the following areas: exploration and development of deep gas deposits, unconventional deposits, engineering technologies, and special software.

In December, it is planned to sign a Roadmap on areas of cooperation with RIPED.

It should be noted that QazaqGaz STC is interested in cooperation with advanced technology partners and R&D centers and is working to attract leading technical universities in Kazakhstan and abroad.

At the beginning of November, QazaqGaz STC already signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with Gazprom VNIIGAZ LLC on a range of issues of scientific and innovative activities within the framework of the XII St. Petersburg International Gas Forum, and in the middle of the month, together with Baker Hughes, held a competitive selection from among QazaqGaz employees for intensive training - programs at Baker Hughes University in Italy.
