In Astana, a meeting was held between the top management of QazaqGaz NC JSC and employees of a group of companies from all over the country in the Town Hall format. The offline and online meeting was attended by employees of production branches and members of the expert council of QazaqGaz, honored figures in the gas sector, representatives of industry associations and the Samruk-Kazyna Fund.
Sanzhar Zharkeshov, the head of the national company, presented a new development strategy for QazaqGaz until 2032, and also outlined key priorities in realizing the gas potential of Kazakhstan.
The QazaqGaz strategy consists of 12 development areas and includes:
1. Stimulating change to optimize demand;
2. Fair tariffs and prices, stimulating the development of the gas industry and energy efficiency, as well as structural changes leading the gas market towards gradual liberalization;
3. Ensuring the growth and diversification of the resource base of commercial gas;
4. Ensuring the timely expansion of the capacities of key gas processing projects;
5. Ensuring the balance of gas in the country at the optimal purchase price;
6. Ensuring uninterrupted supply and maximizing the export and transit potential of the country;
7. Providing infrastructure for gasification of the country and reducing losses;
8. Provision of gas chemical industry projects with gas;
9. Improvement of operating and investment activities;
10. Development of competencies in the gas industry and building a highly competent organization;
11. Improving the efficiency of the organization through the use of digital tools;
12. Preparing the company for a successful IPO.
According to the head of QazaqGaz, the new strategy will help unlock the great potential of Kazakhstan in the gas industry. At the same time, the domestic consumption of blue fuel in the country is growing annually - in 7 years, the consumption of commercial gas may double.
“Our goal is not to monopolize the market, but to become a catalyst for creating opportunities for investors and subsoil users. We want to increase the investment attractiveness of the industry by strengthening the energy security of our country,” said Sanzhar Zharkeshov.
Since 2022, Kazakhstan has been implementing unprecedented reforms in the gas sector. Among them is the introduction of a new price formula for the purchase of gas from subsoil users. The new formula will make it possible to attract investments in exploration and development of gas deposits. It is expected that the introduction of the new gas purchase price formula will help to significantly increase the gas resource base.
