Gas reaches the regions
In 2025, access to gas was provided to 350,000 people in 95 localities, and in 2026, gas will be supplied to another 41 settlements. As of January 1, 2024, 62% of the population had access to gas; by the end of 2025, this figure increased to 64.2%. Internal gas consumption continues to grow steadily: the total supply volume for the year was 20.4 billion cubic meters. Large-scale projects and the connection of new main pipelines are enabling hundreds of localities to develop and create more comfortable living conditions.
One of the most significant events for gas industry professionals in 2025 was the completion of the "Taldykorgan–Usharal" pipeline construction, ahead of schedule by 1 year and 4 months. This project will provide gas to 84 settlements in the Zhetysu region, increasing regional gasification from 56.5% to approximately 76%. This is a major milestone for regional infrastructure development and quality of life improvements.
Under the directive of the Head of State, work is ongoing to gasify settlements around Astana by connecting them to Phase 1 of the "Saryarka" pipeline. Settlements connected include Nurly, Talapker, Koyandy, I. Altysarina, and Akkayin, benefitting about 34,700 residents. Additionally, the city of Kosshy has also been connected, where gas supply is now available to 31,200 residents. The launch was televised with the participation of Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev.
Gas Transit as a Key Growth Driver
Increasing volumes of international gas transit became a critical factor in improving the company's operational and financial results in 2025. By year-end, pipeline transportation exceeded the plan by 5%, driven by higher export volumes and increased international transit turnover.
The total gas transportation volume reached 88.3 billion cubic meters, of which 53.2 billion cubic meters were transited through the main pipelines "Central Asia–Center," "Soyuz–Orenburg–Novopskov," and "Bukhara–Ural," reaffirming the strategic importance of transit business in the company's structure.
Active digitalization development
QazaqGaz has firmly committed to integrating artificial intelligence into daily operations.
A key customer-facing product is the QazaqGaz Aimaq mobile app, allowing subscribers to submit meter readings via photos. AI algorithms automatically recognize and process the readings without user intervention. Over 330,000 users are already benefiting from this service, with plans to connect at least 10% of all subscribers by the end of 2026.
On the eGov portal, an AI consultant now provides instant, 24/7 responses on gasification questions, reducing pressure on contact centers. Additionally, issuing technical conditions (TUs) has been fully transitioned online, with document uploads automated from databases and processing speed increased by a factor of 12. Today, half of the subscribers prefer to receive TUs digitally.
Expansion of the resource base
Simultaneously, the company intensified its exploration activities. In the Zhambyl region, gas deposits have been confirmed at the Maldybay site, with seismic surveys underway. At the Anabay field, three production wells and one appraisal well have been drilled.
Furthermore, the Barkhan field, part of the Amangeldinsky group, has been commissioned. The project will create new jobs and additional revenue for the state budget. Gas production at this field is expected to reach about 30 million cubic meters in 2026, with a peak of around 65 million cubic meters projected for 2028.
Several agreements have been signed:
- A subsoil use contract for the Northern-2 field with KazAzot;
- A subsoil use contract for the Saralzhyn field;
- Agreements on financing during exploration until the approval of the development project and transitioning to industrial operation, including joint activities in the Northern-1 field with CNPC. The "Northern-1" project is a significant step in expanding the gas resource base. The signing took place during high-level negotiations in Beijing, enabling a swift move to the practical phase of work.
This year, work was completed on joint exploration of the KT-III (Zhalybek) site with Chevron, with negotiations ongoing for further project implementation. Talks are also underway regarding the promising Kamenkovsky block in Western Kazakhstan, involving ENI.
Major gas projects
Amid rising domestic demand, active regional gasification, and the development of export and transit potential, QazaqGaz is implementing several strategic initiatives, including large-scale projects for raw gas processing.
One such project is the construction of a gas processing plant at Kashagan with a capacity of 1 billion cubic meters per year. The project is already progressing actively: over 2,000 workers and more than 340 pieces of equipment are involved. The preliminary basic engineering design (Pre-FEED) for a new gas processing plant with a capacity of 2.5 billion cubic meters has also been completed, laying the foundation for future investment decisions.
A critical project for the country’s future energy security is the construction of the second line of the "Beyneu–Bozoi–Shymkent" pipeline. In 2025, it received positive expert approval, and contracts for pipe and gas compressor equipment supplies were signed, allowing the project to enter the practical implementation phase.
Work is being systematically carried out to develop compressed natural gas (CNG) in Kazakhstan. Currently, there are 24 CNG stations across the country, six of which belong to the subsidiary LLP "QazaqGaz Onimderi." These stations operate in Almaty and Aktobe, with plans to launch five more under the "QazaqGaz" brand in 2026, in Almaty, Aktobe, Taraz, and the Zhetisu region.
Care for people
In the "Year of Work Professions," QazaqGaz prioritized human resources development. A project called "QazaqGaz Leaders Pool" was launched—a comprehensive program to develop personnel potential and prepare a future talent reserve for the national gas company. The reserve includes 27 employees from various divisions of QazaqGaz who passed a rigorous selection process.
Additionally, over 8,000 employees underwent retraining and vocational training. Regularly, gas industry professionals participate in the "Үздік маман" (Best Specialist) competition, where they confirm their qualifications, gain recognition, and receive additional salary bonuses.
Significant efforts were also made to improve working conditions. Modern rotational complexes were built in Temirtau and Zhezkazgan, featuring administrative and living facilities, training classrooms, medical offices, gyms, laundry, rest rooms, and modern security checkpoints, aimed at significantly enhancing social and living conditions for personnel servicing the "Saryarka" pipeline section and the "Zhezkazgan" gas distribution station. Additionally, a dormitory in Atyrau was renovated. In total, 33 facilities were upgraded in 2025 to improve social and living conditions.
In celebration of the company's 25th anniversary, special attention was paid to the people behind the sector’s development. Over three thousand employees and veterans received awards, and celebratory events honoring gas industry workers and their professional path took place across the country.
The development of the gas industry remains a systematic and planned effort. Many tasks lie ahead, including further regional gasification, resource base expansion, infrastructure modernization, and enhancing supply reliability both domestically and internationally. QazaqGaz approaches this next phase with a clear understanding of priorities and a readiness to steadily move forward, step by step, increasing access to gas for Kazakhstanis and strengthening the country's energy security.
