On 10 April, national company QazaqGaz launched a new compressed natural gas (CNG) refuelling station in Aktobe. The opening ceremony was attended by Aktobe Region Akim Askhat Shakharov and Chairman of the Management Board of QazaqGaz, Alibek Zhamauov.

The new station operates under the QazaqGaz Onimderi brand. Built by Almaty Build LLP, represented by investor Abai Beketov, the facility has a daily capacity of up to 300 vehicles. The project required investment of KZT 2 billion. Located along the city’s bypass road, the station is positioned to serve both local traffic and transit flows along the Western Europe–Western China international corridor.

“This is an important contribution to implementing the Head of State’s поручения on developing gas-powered transport and creating a modern urban environment. Natural gas is the cleanest fossil fuel, and for a major city like Aktobe, reducing harmful emissions is critical for the health and comfort of residents. The project also offers significant economic benefits. I would like to thank everyone involved in its delivery,” said Akim Askhat Shakharov.

The expansion of the CNG station network aligns with Kazakhstan’s Comprehensive Plan for the Development of the Gas Industry for 2025–2029, approved by the Government, which identifies gas-motor infrastructure as a key priority. At the same time, the regional authorities are increasing the number of gas-powered public transport vehicles, supporting steady demand for CNG.

“Using natural gas as a motor fuel helps reduce emissions and improve air quality, while the franchise-based model for managing the network ensures consistent service standards and operational reliability,” Zhamauov said.

This marks the second such station in Aktobe. The first QazaqGaz Onimderi facility has a capacity of 180 vehicles per day.

QazaqGaz noted that coordinated efforts between the Government, local authorities, the national company and private partners are helping to develop the CNG market and create conditions for scaling similar projects across other regions of the country.
